A Look Into The Past

Anthony Petrello: Past Experience Leading the Nabors Industries into the Future

Anthony Petrello has been doing this for a long time. Since his election to the Nabors Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Board in 1991, Anthony Petrello has leveraged his law and personal experience to lead and guide a company revered in the drilling industry.

Nabors history is steep; they have made many drilling aquisitions, moved into the equipment business, oversaw many offshore drilling expeditions, and are continuing to grow into a dominating force. Anthony Petrello’s expertise allows him to have the foresight to strategically plan and direct Nabors next moves on the drilling field.

History for Future Establishment

Before signing on with Nabors, Petrello enjoyed solely practicing law in international arbitration, taxation and general corporate law. Arbitration law involves disputing parties to derive a settlement agreement involving one or more arbitrators. In such a practice, settlement and negotiation skills would serve Anthony Petrello well with his future endeavors.

Mr. Petrello practiced law with Baker & McKenzie becoming the Managing Partner of the firm’s New York office. He would soon resign in 1991 exploring new challenges and where he could serve a higher calling. Not only would he be a part of the Nabors establishment, but his calling would extend to joining the Board of Trustees of Texas Children’s Hospital.

Neurological Battles Hit Home

It is said that sometimes our greatest motivator manifest itself in the form of adversity. Often times, our enemies aren’t human, but other external conflicts requiring spirit and grit to win out.

Anthony Petrello’s greatest enemy didn’t come through business challenges. When his 8 year old daughter, Carena, was diagnosed with periventricular leukomalacia or PVL, him and his wife, Cynthia, world was flipped upside down. According to Texas Children Hospital research, this neurological disease can cause “a lack of oxygen or blood flow to the brain resulting cerebral palsy, or chronically impaired motor skills, and other developmental delay issues.”

Despite the sudden infliction, they persevered; they worked with their daughter through her disability considering little victories, such as chewing her food, a miracle.

Looking Ahead

Anthony Petrello is presently President and Chief Operating Officer for Nabors continuing to provide excellent guidance. He uses his personal experience overcoming barriers to excel in his leadership roles. At the end of the day, it is best to lead when the followers know that you are human; and not above the trenches they go under everyday for the company.
