A Look Into The Past

The Billionaire Philosophy: George Soros

Introduction

George Soros is an investor and philanthropist. Originally from Hungary, he became an American author and as of May of this year, his net worth has surpassed twenty five billion dollars. Though wealthy investors have enough money to purchase extravagant items such as yachts, and fancy cars, others use their money in different ways. George Soros has done this by embracing his philanthropic endeavors. In this article, we will discuss how George Soros’ name has been on the headlines due to his giving nature, transferring billions to Open Society Foundations.

George Soros Philanthropy

According to the New York times, George Soros has broken the record for the most money donated to one single foundation. He has made his contributions quietly, and publicly disclosed it a couple of days before October 17th. Through his donation, his Open Society foundation has become the second-biggest foundation in the United States.

Soros created the foundation more than thirty years ago and has been guiding its duties into human rights democracy movements. These movements span more than 120 countries and they have involved rights movements for lesbians, gays, and police brutality.

Mr. Soros is now eighty seven years old, but has diligently funded and involved himself in this organization to protect and make a change in the world. In 2014, his Open Society foundations created centers to treat the outbreak of Ebola and in 2016 , it committed ten million dollars to fight against hate crimes.

His billionaire philanthropic heart, may be due to the fact that in his early years, he lived in a communist country, where people have a limit to how much money they can make. After he was given the nickname of “the man who broke the Bank of England” he became heavily involved in philanthropy, because making a billion dollars gives you that luxury. In an article written by Fortune, he states that ““My success in the financial markets has given me a greater degree of independence than most other people.” This has given him the power and ability to impact the world in a way that very few can. By transferring most of his wealth to a foundation, he not only talks about making a change, he puts his money where his mouth is, and this has placed Soros on a pedestal. and Follow him Twitter.com

Conclusion

In conclusion, George Soros is the 19th richest man in the world. With an estimated twenty five billion dollars in net worth, he has the ability to lose one billion, as was the case during the Donald Trump presidential election. He has helped African countries with education funding, and just recently broke the record for the most money given to a single foundation. His Open Society Foundation has become the second largest foundation in the United States, with an eighteen billion dollar infusion from Soros. We believe his philanthropy comes from feeling the duty to give back, after being oppressed in his upbringing, living in a communist country.
